 COLWICK PARK LDSC ANNUAL OPEN WATER CHAMPIONSHIP, held at Colwick Park, Nottingham, on 4 June 2000. This early season event was held in unBritish conditions: weather dty and sunny, water at 62 degrees, which may have accounted for the larger fields this year. Any number of stroke/distance combinations to suit all potential competitors.

EXMOUTH FAIRWAY BUOY SWIM, held in the River Exe at Exmouth on Sunday 4 June. This traditional early season swim marks the start of the season for many open water swimmers. Thirty swimmers took to the water in the hope of catching the turning tide at the old Fairway Buoy and only two swimmers were unable to finish the 4.75 mile, tidally assisted swim. (21 men and 7 ladies completed the swim.) Leading swimmers were:

9th INTERNATIONAL MASTERS MEET, held at the Kristalbad, Apeldoorn (50 metres outdoor) on Friday/Sunday 16-18 June 2000. Previous GB attenders at this meet have spoken well of it. Our visitors this year were the City of Milton Keynes, whose podium finishers are listed below. In the top club rankings CMK finished in fifth place out of 98 clubs from nine countries. Margaret Smith had another splendid weekend, with improvements to her own European 400 and 800 records, plus a British record in the 100 free. The standard of masters swimming varies event by event and age group by age group in the Netherlands. Foreign visitors are always welcome.
